At least 15 people were injured when part of the roof fell down on center stage in Oslo, where they were running a concert for BI students.
– The injured people are being treated at the site. We have not been informed that some of them are seriously injured, says Carsten Pedersen, operations manager of the Oslo police to news agency NTB.
The fire department says to VG that there was a several centimeters’ thick layer of plaster that slid down from the ceiling.
There were 1,800 people in attendance at the concert, which was a closed event for BI students in connection with the mentor for new students, police said. Everyone have been evacuated and police have cordoned off the area outside.
– The ceiling fell down and then it was total chaos. Fire alarm went off at once, says Charlotte Nilsen to NTB reporter on site. She is a mentor and last year student at BI. According to Nilsen event was sold out.
It was DJ Steve Aoki who held a concert for the students when the accident occurred.
– We did not understand what happened.
So we see that it scatters from the ceiling. It began with small stones, and suddenly the big pieces too. I found it very dramatically, says first-year student Ashkam (21), who says he was standing three meters from where stone pieces fell, to the news agency NTB.
– We sent many units to the place once we got the message about the incident. It was initiated immediate evacuation of the place. The surrounding area was blocked off and the fire department has secured place to avoid new ceiling slides, says Pedersen.
The police were notified about the incident at 17:28.
