To help remove greenhouse gas emissions in Oslo the municipality is creating a separate oil heating patrol.

Patrols will go on a home visit if   you need help in finding alternatives to your oil heater.  In four years time it will be forbidden to use fuel oil for heating, NRK reported.
There are still 7,500 oil heaters in the capital region and many of the oil tanks have been buried for decades and pose a danger of oil leakage.

– This is a  patrol which have been made for the purpose of helping people, these are people who can to come to your home and look at the situation in your house, and therefore also provide assistance and advice on how to switch to a new alternative,  Hallstein Bjercke (V) , who is behind the proposal, says.

On Wednesday the party got the support of the City Council for establishing the service. Patrols will work purposefully and use the Oslo’s oil tank registry to find out where they need to go.
– In the previous period we managed to remove all oil heating tanks in municipal buildings. So it is important to us that the state also removes the tanks from all of its buildings. But we  also have to help private households by removing those who are hidden around the city, says Bjercke.

The City of Oslo Climate and Energy Fund provides grants to businesses, cooperatives and condominiums that will switch from oil heating to district heating.Enova, which is run by the state, provides support to individuals who want to get rid of the oil tanks and the municipality can both help those who want to apply for funding.
