Police ask for four weeks detention of asylum seeker

The police will ask for four weeks in custody for an Iraqi who is charged with  stabbing a Syrian man in his 20’s at Høyanger reception center, according to NRK news.

The case is being investigated as an attempted murder, according to the channel.

The  man  accused is from Iraq and in his 30s.

– The accused was drunk when the incident happened. We have sent blood samples for analysis and are awaiting answers to whether there was more than alcohol in his system, said sheriff Kåre-Jan Hofrenning of Høyanger said.

The accused has been in talks with the defender Tuesday morning. He will be questioned during the day, according to Hofrenning.

The man who was stabbed was hospitalized at Førde Central with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Knife found

A knife was found with blood on it, in the apartment where the incident took place. But the police would not comment on the discovery.

– We have received information that there have been minor confrontations between the two in the past. Based on the information we have so far, the stabbing was unprovoked, said Hofrenning.
