Police believe Polish woman missing in Ørsta is dead

The police will map out who was in the terrain in and around the tour area of Saudehornet in Ørsta, where a 25-year-old Polish woman has been missing since Wednesday.

The police now no longer expect to find the missing woman alive, so the rescue mission became on Sunday afternoon, a search for a body.

“This means that the extensive rescue mission that has been in place for the past two days has been stepped down. But we want to emphasise that the search continues” said Stian Meek, deputy leader in the police district of Møre og Romsdal.

The police want to find out who has been on a trip to the Saudehorn and Skåla area from Wednesday. They also want to see photographs and films.

“Maybe you have not seen anything, but maybe others have seen you” explained Meek.

Electronic access points have been created for written tips and submission of photo and video on police websites.

Major search

Nearly 300 people have been following the 25-year-old, Maja Justyna Herner, who was last seen on Wednesday.

People from the Red Cross, Civil Defence, other volunteers, dog handlers and police crews have been searching, but without results so far. On Sunday night, volunteers got new support from the police.

Police helicopter service in Oslo sent a helicopter with the task of taking pictures of the more inaccessible parts of the mountain range stated Møre og Romsdal police district.

After the police blocked a larger area on Saturday, a discovery was being investigated. On Sunday it was reported that the discovery had nothing to do with the missing woman the police told Sunnmørsposten newspaper. What was found is unknown presently.

Missed since Wednesday

Maja Justyna Herner, who lives in Ørsta, left for a trip at 13.30 on Wednesday. No one has been in contact with her since then.

The last police know about her movements is that she parked her car at the parking lot at 14.30, where the trail up to the Saudehorn begins. The mountain is 1,303 meters above sea level.

As she only had to go for a short trip, she had no gear with her, nor a mobile phone. She was not dressed to spend the night out in the terrain.
