The 21-year-old charged with attempted murder of an 18-year-old at Holmlia in Oslo had attended a Quranic school in Somalia. The police believe the 18-year-old went to the same school.
The two were at the same school just a few months before the shooting episode on April the 24th.
“We have information indicating this,” said police adviser, Pål Fredrik Hjort Kraby to Klassekampen newspaper.
The 21-year-old man is charged with shooting an 18-year-old man in the leg, hitting his pulmonary artery. A 23-year-old man was also detained in the same case, charged with gross bodily harm.
According to the police, the accused and victim had spent “a certain period of time” together at school. Several of the Quran schools in Somalia are said to have torture-like conditions,whereby students can be beaten and locked in.
The 18-year-old’s immigration lawyer, Andrea J. Salamonsen, told Klassekampen that the victim had refused to attend the school in Somalia.
Throughout the investigation, the police have not been able to determine whether the shooting episode was related to gang crime. Although there were a lot of people present when the shots were fired, the police have struggled to gain witness statements.
The 21-year-old has been in custody for four weeks with a ban on letters and visits. His defence lawyer,
Trygve Staff has not responded to Klassekampen’s inquiries. Police Attorney Kraby will, on Friday,request that the custody period be extended.
