Rabbit in trouble and geometric foxes appeared as Princess Ingrid Alexandra unveiled  the first works in the sculpture park on Thursday.

Over a thousand guests were invited to the opening of Princess Ingrid Alexandra sculpture park with works of art for and by children on Thursday. It is situated in Slottsparken and will in the coming years be filled by several sculptures  given by children from all the regions of the country. First up was Northern Norway, where the winners have been named “Geometric fox” and “Rabbit in trouble.” After a speech by King Harald the princess performed the unveiling.

A place for play
The event began at noon when 700 kindergarten children and 300 adults enjoyed their packed lunches in the park.
In addition to King Harald and Princess Ingrid Alexandra, Queen Sonja, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, Prince Sverre Magnus and Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner were present at the event .
The King and Queen will use Slottsparken as the venue for their 25th anniversary his year and has therefore temporarily called it the Jubilee Park:
– The opening of the sculpture park is the first of many events in the Jubilee Park this summer. This is a unique place in the capital for children and families, said communications manager Marianne Hagen at the Royal Palace .
Success Concept
Skulpturparken copied the concept from the sculpture trail at Akershus Fortress , which opened in 2013. “Pillow Man”, a work given by children from Sagdalen school in Oslo, will be borrowed from the sculpture trail and be on display at the park in addition to the two new sculptures.
The Sculpture park is a gift from Sparebankstiftelsen DNB in connection with the royal couple’s 25th anniversary this year. The project will eventually comprise ten sculptures.
It is the 5th and 6th graders from Northern Norway who first received the invitation to participate in the competition to design sculptures. A jury selected the winning entries, which were then put into production by professional craft workshops.
