Syrian Aisha Shezadi, who recently asked the UD for help to return to Norway, is under investigation for participation in a terrorist organization.

Police Security Service (PST) confirms to Aftenposten that they started investigating the woman from Bærum a few months ago. Currently, no charges have been issued.

“We suspect she has participated in a terrorist organization,” said Martin Bernsen, Head of Information in PST.

Aisha Shezadi (26) traveled to Syria in August 2014 and settled in an area controlled by the Islamic State (IS). In a letter sent to the UD at the end of May, the woman said she was in a refugee camp in northeast Syria and that she wants to return to Norway.

Shezadi has previously told Aftenposten that she has not done anything wrong and that Norwegian authorities have no grounds to punish her.

“But since I’m a Muslim and not well-liked with the Norwegian population, I will not be surprised if I’m punished for something,” she said.
