All reception centers have to provide information about the name, date of birth and nationality of the residents at the reception when this is requested by the police, the  Ministry of Justice has decided.

– It is important that the police have a general view of the foreign nationals residing in each police district. This is essential in police work with immigration control, security and state of readiness. That’s why this instruction is important,  Immigration and Integration Minister says Sylvi Listhaug.

The Ministry aims to give the police a more permanent legal basis for access to that kind of information, in addition to ensuring that the information can be used in efforts to prevent and investigate offenses, it said in a press release Monday.
Accordint to the current Immigration Act, police have the right to obtain information about foreigners in connection with a specific case
