Norway’s extreme summer temperatures will bring the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (Yr.no) to task with having to rewrite their record books.

Wednesday saw Northern Norway set records for warm air temperatures within the month of July; with record setting temperatures reaching beyond the Arctic circle.

The 3 villages of Andselv, Andslimoen & Heggelia of Norway’s Bardufoss region earned their place within the record books Wednesday with 33.5 degrees Celsius (℃): easily setting a new record for high air temperatures within Troms.

RECORD-SETTING HEAT
Finnmark’s Pasvik (Finnish Paatsjoki) village in Northern Norway basked within a record 33.3 ℃ summer heat, and Nordland’s Drag village in Tysfjord municipality sweltered under summer air temperatures of 33.7 ℃.

Within Norway’s Arctic Circle, Nordland’s capital of Bodø set a surprising, new record for air temperatures at 30.4 ℃: – the first recorded instance of warm air temperatures within the Arctic Circle surpassing 30 ℃ since 1953; when Norway began recording meteorological data.

According to Yr.no, the previous high temperature record for Troms was set July, 2014 at Northern Norway’s village of Skibotn at Lyngen fjord when temperatures reached a reported 32.7 ℃.

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute (Yr.no) provides civilian & military data while conducting research in meteorology, oceanography & climatology.

Headquartered within Oslo, the institute was founded in 1866.
