During the year Red Cross has canceled the 3030 people’s request to its holiday offer named as holiday for everyone. This despite that this year offered more seats than ever before.

– This is because the need for free holiday offer is growing rapidly, said General Secretary Asne Havnelid.

The organization mentioned that since “Vacation for all” has started 15 years ago the number of children living in poverty increased sharply in Norway. Today 92,000 children are living in families with persistently weak economy.

– Many children in Norway dread the summer holidays because they know that it will be long and quiet and that they should not do anything special or go away. It’s not everyone who can afford to go away for the holidays and therefore we need to talk about that being at home is also a holiday, said Havnelid.

In summer 2270 children and adults attended vacation for everyone. Overall, there has been arranged 41 stays around the country.
