Norwegian Red Cross will send an emergency package and a water specialist to help locals in earthquake-stricken Ecuador.

– The situation is dramatic for those affected, who number up to one hundred thousand. Red Cross volunteers have been working around the clock with the evacuation of people in vulnerable areas and latterly lifesaving medical care to injured, the organization’s regional representative in Central America, Hakon Jacob Røthing writes to the news agency NTB.
Norwegian Red Cross will send water expert Fidel Pena to Ecuador. He will be accompanied with five units with a general arrangement for water filtration. This will ensure clean water for 5,000 people.
– Red Cross is coordinating the work with national authorities and will step up its response with a focus on water and health over the next few weeks,  Røthing writes.
