The newly released suspected Russian spy, Mikhail Botsjkarev returned to his homeland on Saturday. “I knew it would end well,” he says.

According to the news agency RIA Novosti, Botsjkarev met with the Russian press when he arrived on Saturday. He says that at first, he did not understand why he was arrested, NRK reports.

“I knew it would end well because I’m completely innocent,” he says.

The Russian is still charged with violations of section 121 of the Criminal Code on intelligence activities against state secrets but was released from custody on Friday. He had participated in an IT seminar in Parliament under the auspices of the European Center for Parliamentary Research and Documentation (ECPRD) when he was arrested on 21 September.

Russia’s Embassy in Norway released a statement on Facebook on Friday, requesting an apology from the Norwegian Government.
