On Monday morning Korgen central school in Hemnes in Nordland was still on fire, but the fire department now has the flames under control. The roof of the middle school building has collapsed.
The police was notified of smoldering flames in the building 18.56 Sunday night. But a little over 19 they received the message that the fire was more extensive than expected.
The school is the only one in the village and consists of both a junior high school and an elementary school with over 230 pupils. No people are reported to be injured.
– It still burning, but the fire department has things under control, Trond Martinussen, operations manager of Nordland police told the news agency NTB on Monday morning.
