The Seamen’s Church in New Orleans will be closed down because of low number of Norwegian residents in the area.

The decision was made Saturday during Seamen’s Church board meeting.
– Seamen’s Church must always stick to its ground rules and evaluate the areas where they are most needed. This means, as it’s always been said, Seamen’s Church will permanently operate and manages based on needed changes, said by Jan Tommy Fosse Head of foreign division.

According to Seamen’s Church currently there are only a few hundred Norwegian permanent residents living around New Orleans.
During the same meeting Jørn-Henning Theis was elected as new chairman. Currently he has the position as administrative director in Harald Deaconess Foundation and has previously been a priest in Seamen’s Church at Houston and Rotterdam.
