The search for American tourist in Hallingdal is under process

The American tourist who fell in Hivjufossen in Hallingdal on Sunday night is still not found. Red Cross seeks in the area but bad weather makes the search difficult.

On Monday evening, said operations manager Jarle Hopperstad in South-East police that the man is still not found. Exploration resources from the Red Cross search continuously till evening but in somewhat reduced strength. It’s still bad weather in the area.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Southern Norway mentioned to news agency NTB that the man is presumed dead.

– It is high flow and difficult conditions because of the steep cliffs and slippery rocks, said Sheriff Thorstein Seim in Hol to NTB earlier on Monday.

Sunday evening at 18.45 prompting police report that a man in their 50s had fallen into the falls.

– He has probably fallen from some height, 20 meters, or possibly higher, said operator Glenn Lura in Southeast Police to NTB.

Large rescue team participated in the rescue operation until it got dark on Sunday. His family will follow, including the Red Cross’ care group.
