The seed vault in Svalbard will be upgraded in the autumn. The aim is to ensure that the frozen seeds from around the globe will not be affected by climate change.

The seed vault will ensure Earth’s genetic diversity and is a safety stock of plant seeds from around the world. The seeds are stored deep inside the mountain, frozen by permafrost and artificial freezing.

Now Statsbygg would like to ensure that water from outside melting snow will not penetrate and make it possible for easy maintenance and eliminate unnecessary sources of heat.

Overall plan is to make the plant more resistant to future climate change, writes Statsbygg, responsible for operations.
