The UN reacts strongly to Minister Sylvi Listhaug’s proposed tightening of the immigration policy and, among other things,  asks the government to expand the possibility of family reunification.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) hope Norway will expand the possibility of family reunification, rather than limiting it. If not, the family members will most likely find other ways – using human smugglers – to reunite , the UNHCR writes in its response to austerity proposals Sylvi Listhaug (FRP) presented during Christmas.
The UN agency, which already, after a meeting with Listhaug in late January, have stated that it may take Norway to court if the possibility of family reunification decreases, argues against and criticises the austerity package at great length .
