Shorter wait for adoption

The time it took to adopt from abroad fell slightly in 2015, according to Adopsjonsforum.

The families who got their adopted child through Adopsjonsforum last year spent an average of five years and three months from they started the process until they got the child. This is two months less than in 2014.
One of the families waited only 18 months, while another family spent nearly ten years on the adoption process.
The decline in the average waiting time is partly because fewer children are adopted from China, where the average period of waiting is greater than for most of the other countries.
A total of 132 children  were adopted from abroad through the three Norwegian adoption associations in 2015. The previous year, 152 children were adopted.
