The government will make it easier to use driving licenses from countries outside the EEA for persons in temporary employment in Norway.

“This will make it easier for companies that need such a workforce, and for those who do such work, while safeguarding road safety” said the Minister of Transport, Jon Georg Dale (Frp).

He has asked the Directorate-General to extend the period of driving licenses from countries outside the EEA to be used in Norway for persons staying temporarily
in Norway from three to six months for those with a work permit.

This will provide better compliance with the work permit rules in such cases and will help people with such permission to take work where part of the work requires
driving. This will be relevant, for example, in the seasonal tourism industry.

The Road Directorate will prepare and submit a draft of necessary amendments to the regulatory framework. The changes will be in place for next summer.
