Prime Minister Erna Solberg underlines the strong ties between Norway and Britain in her congratulatory letter to Theresa May, who Wednesday became the new British prime minister.
In the letter, which is posted on Solberg’s blog, she says she is confident that relations between Norway and Britain will remain strong and that she looks forward to a meeting with May in the near future.
In the letter she referred to the close cooperation in NATO and in the EEA. In addition, she emphasizes that the UK is one of Norway’s main trading partners, partly as importer of a quarter of Norway’s natural gas.
Because of changes in the British government, she has already informed the outgoing Prime Minister David Cameron that it might be in both countries’ interest to delay this year’s Future Forum for Northern Europe.
