Norway has not approved any handover of ransom to release Kjartan Sekkingstad but thanked Philippines authorities for their efforts, said Prime Minister Erna Solberg Sunday.

Solberg says that the Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines has confirmed that Sekkingstad is alive.

– We’ve got photographic evidence that he is in the Philippines still but safe, the Prime Minister said.
She says that work on the release of the Norwegian man happened in several stages, using both military pressure and negotiation.

– The Norwegian ambassador and delegation in the Philippines has received Sekkingstad, and said that he is safe and sound. We have not wanted to confirm this until we were absolutely sure that he was safe and sound, said Solberg.

– This is a happy day, particularly for the family, but also for everyone who has worked intensively on this issue for a long time.
