Prime Minister Erna Solberg personally think it is sad that her Icelandic colleague has resigned, but said the case demonstrates the importance of transparency.
Solberg commented on the resignation of Prime Minister Sigmundur Gunnlaugsson in  the NRK news program Dagsnytt 18.
– On a personal level, I think it’s sad because he is a prime minister I always got along well with and with whom I had  good working relationship. On the other hand this brings home the lesson that people will trust you only as long as you prove yourself to be trustworthy. It is important to be open about economic interests, says Solberg.
Gunnlaugsson has stressed that he has not done anything illegal. Although no laws have been broken, it’s very important that people feel they can trust their politicians relationship,  Solberg acknowledges.
– In politics, this has often has to do with you being seen as trustworthy  and that you have been transparent about your own interests when they may affect important political decisions that you are to make , she says.
