Diversity and unity across inequality was a clear message during the royal couple’s garden party on Thursday. Prime Minister Erna Solberg says it is important that the royal family represent the entire country.

– It is a very important message. If there is a role the royal family really has in Norway, then it is to be a symbol of the whole of Norway.

They can be the glue that maybe we politicians can never be. We will always have discussions and people will disagree or agree with us but the royal family is representative of the country, says Solberg to NTB.

She does not think the royal couple goes too far in taking part in an ongoing debate about immigration and integration.

– It is important to remember that Norway has become a country where we have different backgrounds and it is quite natural that one embraces the royal family, says Solberg.

The Prime Minister thanked the royal couple for their efforts for 25 years on the throne.
– Every single day you have with care and conscience earned and united our country, said Solberg.
