Solberg: – Singapore is main gateway to Southeast Asia

Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Singapore’s President Tony Tan met in Oslo on Tuesday. – Singapore is the most important economic foothold in Southeast Asia, the Prime Minister said.

She also emphasizes the importance of political relations between the countries.
– Singapore is pushing for an international legal order in a region with growing tensions.

Therefore I am very glad that the political relations with Singapore have been strengthened in several important fields in recent years, says Solberg.

Over 250 Norwegian companies are established in Singapore, many of which are companies within the maritime and offshore industries.

Research and education have also become increasingly important in the relationship between Norway and Singapore.

Tan is on a three day state visit to Norway with his wife, Mary Tan.

After two days in Oslo the way goes further north. On Wednesday they will visit the University of Tromsø, and the King and the president will visit the research vessel “Helmer Hanssen” before the state visit ends in Tromsø in the afternoon.
