Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) thanks municipalities that agree to receive more refugees and argues Norway has done a good job with integration.
I want to thank you for the record numbers of refugees allowed to settle in Norwegian municipalities . Norway is the sum of Norwegian municipalities. When we accept that someone should be here, then they should therefore also be in a municipality, Solberg said when she spoke to KS ‘councils in Kristiansand Tuesday.
She added it is “incredibly important” that the municipalities do their part and welcome the refugees.
– But I’m fully aware that this is demanding, the Prime Minister said.
Six months earlier Progress Party leader and Finance Minister Siv Jensen, at the party’s election campaign opening in Ålesund, delivered a message that was quite different
– No one should feel pressured. Say a definite no to all municipalities to receive more refugees, said Jensen according to TV2 at the time.
A main point in the speech of Prime Minister Erna Solberg was that the Norwegian integration policy has been quite successful.
– Norway is quite good at integration. Even though we want even better results, we should not talk down own integration efforts. There are no ghettos in Norway, said the prime minister.
