The solar-powered plane Solar Impulse 2 landed in California after a three-day journey across the Pacific from Hawaii. The plane is on its way around the globe.

The flimsy airplane is equipped with four propellers and 17,000 solar cells on its wings and aviator Bernard Piccard landed in Mountain View south of San Francisco late Saturday night local time. He had flown continuously for 62 hours without fuel.
The plane started its flight around the world in March 2015 in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates and had stopped in Oman, Myanmar, China and Japan before Hawaii.
The flight across the Pacific is the most dangerous, because of the lack of places to make an emergency landing. The solar-powered plane wintered in Hawaii, where the four batteries that store energy from the sun during the day to keep the plane going at night, were repaired. The batteries sustained heat damage during the 117 hours long crossing from Nagoya in Japan.
The  journey will continue from Mountain view across the North American continent, and then across the Atlantic to Europe and finally back to Abu Dhabi.
