Sør-Varanger municipality has given notice of taking out a lawsuit against the Immigration Directorate(UDI ) in connection with the disagreement about a settlement for the refugee reception center in the sports facility Fjellhallen.

The dispute is about 8.5 million kroner that UDI still refuses to pay. The next step is a writ in court, writes iFinnmark.
– The parties are still so far apart that we found it necessary to send such a notice, said the municipal attorney, Ole G. Klevan.
UDI suggested mediation with the presence of lawyers for the case in a recent letter . Mayor Rune Rafaelsen (Labor) said to Finnmarken that there is no question of meeting anyone else other than the UDI director Frode Forfang.
The dispute includes the supplementary agreements that  UDI have not accepted, as well as the investments needed before startup. UDI also believes that the mismanagement of registration by the municipality makes it impossible to verify the number of asylum seekers who actually visited the transit reception center – and thus how much they should receive in payment.

UDI and Sør-Varanger municipality signed an agreement for the operation of Fjellhallen as transit centers from 24 September 2015 until 31 March 2016, but the reception only had residents until November 11, so the agreement was terminated at the end of the year. The municipality demands a total of  NOK 16.5 million for the operation of the reception center.
