There is still a risk of new landslides on E16 at Gudvangen in Sogn og Fjordane. A major rockslide on Tuesday meant that the road had to be closed.

– Now we first have to clear the mountainside before the crew can start clearing and repair the road, Acting Deputy Director Ingar Hals in NPRA in Sogn og Fjordane said.

According to Hals is, there is danger  of new landslides, but there were no more landslides on Tuesday night.
E16 in Nærøy Valley between Voss and Gudvangen is closed indefinitely after about 300 meters of the road was hit by a major landslide at 17 o’clock on Tuesday.
On Wednesday morning  the work on securing the mountainside, and eventually the road, started. In the initial phase of the work, helicopters will be used to wash  any loose material and stones away from the mountainside  .

-The work of clearing the road won’t start until the mountain side is secured. The work will take time, not least because the blocks are so large that they have to be split before they can be removed, said Hals.

No one was injured, but there has been some damage to the road surface,  the Road Administration said. According to Sogn Avis, some of the boulders are the size of a passenger car.
The E16 by the Stalheim tunnel to the west and Flenjatunnelen to the east, is closed indefinitely. Drivers have to take a detour through Highway 7 over Hardangervidda, E134 over Haukelifjell or Highway 13 over Vikafjellet.
