14 people are infected with tuberculosis in Skien in Telemark. Six other cases were detected in summer.

– We have found a strain of tuberculosis in Skien – in other words, the disease has the same origins. And we will kill it now, so that the disease does not spread.

Nevertheless, we must reckon with some additional cases, said Dr. Frode Tinder Holt at communicable diseases department at Telemark Hospital to NRK.

After six cases were uncovered in summer, Health Administration at Skien started mapping it. 50 people who had been in contact with the sick, were summoned for investigation. This led on to new cases being detected.

The 14 people who are infected, have not developed the disease, and they cannot infect others, but to prevent further development they will receive treatment.

According to Public Health, the eruption in Skien is greater than what is normal in Norway.
All those infected in Skien come from immigrant communities.

318 TB cases were detected in Norway last year.
