Ten people died as a result of drowning in September, according to figures from the Norwegian People’s Aid.

All ten were adult males. So far this year 74 people drowned in Norway – at the same time last year the figure was 89, according to Norwegian People’s Aid.

– Fortunately, we see over time that we have fewer drownings in Norway.

Looking at the big picture, we can see that most accidents happened  in the same way as most accidents this September – namely that people fall into the water from the shore, or in connection with use of yachting, said unit manager Jon Halvorsen of rescue and first aid in the Norwegian People’s Aid.

Buskerud and Møre og Romsdal county tops the statistics with nine accidents every year to date.
