Police Chief Ellen Katrine Hætta in Finnmark Police district will not deny that it may be necessary to enter Kirkenes church if several asylum seekers are seeking refuge there.

– It may well be that the police will come to the church to get them eventually, says Ellen Kathrine Hætta to the newspaper Klassekampen, but she adds that it is not a problem at the present time because it is a matter of a few persons.

More asylum seekers fled the reception center in Finnmark when it became known that the National Police Immigration Service (PU) planned a shuttle service to Murmansk or Nikel. Three of them – two men and a pregnant woman – came to Kirkenes church.

– They are of course affected by the situation. What we have done is that we’ve given them a bed, mattresses, bedding, and food, for now, says Wenche Jessen Dervola, churchwarden in Sør-Varanger ward, to NRK on Friday night.

– If there are many more who go to church asylum, it may be necessary for the police to intervene, says Commissioner Hætta to Klassekampen.
