Tine will invest huge sums in a new dairy manufacturing plant for Jarlsberg in Ireland.
The dairy will be completed in 2020 when the Norwegian export subsidies for the cheese disappear.
Tine announced in May this year that they will farm out the cheese production to Ireland as a remedy for the loss of export subsidies.
Last week the Agriculture Minister Jon Georg Dale and his Irish colleague Michael Creed visited the site where the new factory will be built, in Mogeely in Cork, said the newspaper Nationen.
The new plant is scheduled to be ready in 2020 and will produce 14,000 tonnes of Jarlsberg.
Since 2006, the Irish cooperative dairygold produced Jarlsberg on license from Tine, but once the new plant is completed Tine will be responsible for the production, whilst Dairygold will supply milk to the dairy.
Tine estimates that the facility will cost a few tens of millions of euros.
– We are currently in the early planning stages and it is too early to say anything about the cost and how many jobs there are.
It is a laborious process to build a diary, and we are working on the application for construction to start now, says Tine CEO Hanne Refsholt.
