Norwegians and others who will be traveling to the South Asian holiday resort, please are asked to respect Thais in mourning after the king’s death.
King Bhumibol died Thursday, 88 years old, after 70 years on the throne. All forms of entertainment are toned down for 30 days, and the country is entering a period of mourning that will last for a whole year.
With the sorrow comes a ban on entertainment television.
The Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok was closed Friday and asked Norwegians in the country to respect the mourning period.
– Norwegians who are in Thailand or planning to travel there, please respect the mourning period and familiarize yourselves with and follow government advice and instructions for this period, wrote the embassy on their websites.
Norwegian tour operators report that they are closely monitoring the situation.
– We are in contact with the Foreign Ministry and ask our guests to follow the Ministry’s advice respecting this period and otherwise follow the authorities advice and directions, said the PR and communication manager at Apollo, Beatriz Rivera, to the news channel.
Nobody has any advice changes currently about travel to Thailand.
