Toyota is recalling 15,000 vehicles in Norway of the model Rav4. The cause is an error which may cause the seat belt to be cut in a crash.
It is discovered that the seat belt may be damaged by a sharp metal frame around the actual fastening. In a collision this may lead to the seat belt not being able to withstand the load of a collision – and thus being cut, according to the news agency Reuters.
2.87 million cars in total are recalled worldwide. Toyota Norway says to the website E24 that 15,000 cars in Norway are affected and that they in a short time will send letters to all the car owners involved in Norway.
– The rectification will take a short time and will involve us mounting a plastic cover over the seat fastening, Toyota Norwegian press manager Espen Olsen said.
The error has been discovered in Rav 4 SUV, which were produced between July and August 2014 and the Vanguard SUV, were manufactured between October 2005 and January 2016. The latter model is sold exclusively in the Japanese market.
According to the message, 625,000 cars will be recalled in Europe, 1.3 million in North America, 434,000 in China, 177,000 in Japan and 307,000 elsewhere in the world.
