The new Jordal tunnel which opened on Saturday, will replace the deadly Jordalsveien in Voss. – This is the road for the future,  one of the residents who for years have fought for getting the tunnel says.

The 3km long tunnel has cost 320 million. Jordal tunnel replaces Jordalsvegen, which runs from the E16 between Voss and Gudvangen and up to the about 40 residents in Jordalen.
People in  the rural village Jordalen in Voss Municipality have for many years been in danger when they have driven on the narrow and extremely steep road up to the village. For years, they have fought for a tunnel to be made for this stretch. The road has been known as one of the country’s dangerous roads, with great danger of landslides.
– Fantastic
On Saturday afternoon there was an official opening of Jordal tunnel. That afternoon there also was an exhibition at the school and a party for all of the village. On Friday the new tunnel was also celebrated with a concert inside the tunnel.
– This is absolutely amazing, that’s all I can say. This tunnel means everything to us. If this had’n been put in place now, many people would have moved away from here. This is the road for the future, Kari Mørkve Jordalen says.
She has fought for a new tunnel for almost ten years and has been very involved in the issue.
