The U.S.A.’s Embassy in Norway has been told to do all they can to facilitate a new ambassador. Ambassador Sam Heins finishes his stint when Donald Trump takes his position as president in January.

Embassy personnel, who are politically appointed, will resign immediately.

They will not remain for a period of transition while a new ambassador is put in place, confirmed Heins to news agency NTB.

‘In January I will be unemployed. It’s just as well I’m retired’, said the 69-year-old when he spoke to the Oslo Military Society on Monday.

After Trump’s election victory became clear, the embassy were told by the Obama administration to do everything they can to create the conditions for a good transition for those who follow them into jobs there.

Who Heins’ successor will be, and how long the process may take, isn’t completely clear.

‘That’s what the new administration will decide. I have simply to finish,’ said Heins.
