US Defense Minister, Jim Mattis, travels on Tuesday to Europe where he will meet with Frank Bakke-Jensen and Ine Eriksen Søreide of Høyre (H), among others, in Oslo.

Norway is the last of several stops on his trip to Europe, the US Department of Defence reported in a press release.

First, Mattis will go to Brussels with President Donald Trump to meet other leaders of NATO countries. The aim is to emphasise the United States’ desire for a more even distribution of member states’ efforts in NATO, to strengthen NATO’s defense capabilities, and to strengthen the organisation’s role in the fight against terrorism.

Mattis then goes to Croatia’s capital, Zagreb, before the trip ends in Oslo.It is not known what the purpose of the trip is other than meeting Foreign Minister, Eriksen Søreide, and Defence Minister Bakke-Jensen.

The ministry didn’t announce the day Mattis arrives in Norway, but the European tour begins on Tuesday.
