A Norwegian plane on route from Keflavik to Madrid with 152 people on board Saturday made an unscheduled security landing in Birmingham.

No one was injured when a Norwegian plane with tail number D86241, touched down around 13.00 in Birmingham due to a problem with a tire, according to CoventryLive.

“When the plane took off from Keflavik, there was a crack in one of the tires. The pilots discovered the error and chose to land in Birmingham for safety reasons. Landing was quite normal,” says Charlotte Holmbergh, Press Officer at Norwegian to NTB.

CoventryLive writes that the plane was met by fire trucks which hosed down the underside of the plane with scum after landing, and the airport was temporarily closed as a result of the episode.

The closure of the airport caused problems for a number of other airlines and flights. Norwegian sent a replacement plane to take those passengers further.

“The second plane was checked at the airport,” says Holmbergh.
