Upgrade provides summer trouble for NSB customers

Upgrading works at the  Oslo railway station this summer will  lead to problems for rail traffic for a fortnight . The aim of the work is fewer delays.

Late Friday night, a six weeks long working period on the railways will start in and around Oslo. The works at Oslo S is part of the renewal of infrastructure in the Oslo area such as the construction of new tracks for the Follo line and Østfold line into the station.

The work will have major consequences for the rail traffic in both the first and the last week the works, according to National Rail.
In week 26 (27 June-30. June) the  Østfoldbanen will be closed from Oslo S to Ski. Over the next four weeks (4th to 30th July) the line towards Mysen between Ski and Kråkstad will also be closed. Østfoldbanen between Oslo and Ski for the first week of August also.This week the routes from Oslo S to Grefsen, Bryn and Lillestrom will also be closed.

At the closed sections rail traffic will be replaced with alternative transport such as bus and subway.
The aim of the work is to reduce the number of faults that cause poor punctuality of train services and increase the capacity of the stations to get  better traffic management. The upgrading work is costing 160 million.
