Weather change in southern Norway: wind and difficult driving conditions

There has been a warning about difficult driving conditions East of the Mountains (Østafjells) and in the mountains of Southern Norway. – Use tyres suited to the conditions, warn the meteorologists.

The challenging situation is expected to start Wednesday night and it will last until Friday morning. The problem for the Eastern areas is that snow eventually changes to rain with a temperature around zero degrees Celcius. Then it’s easy to lose traction.

In the mountains of southern Norway, the hazard warning predicts heavy wind and snow, which makes driving conditions demanding.

Both alerts are at a yellow level, that is, the second lowest level. This means that the situation is called “challenging” and people are encouraged to “be alert”.

Full storm

The change of weather coming this week will be noticeable in several places. Wednesday evening, the wind is rising to a small storm along the coast of Western Norway south of the Stadt, and the North Sea there is expected to be a full storm, reports the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.

At the same time, high pressure, which has given large parts of the country cold and nice winter weather, will be replaced by low pressure during Wednesday, according to VG. It means mild weather and rainfall expected over large parts of the country.

“Dig out your rain proofs,” says meteorologist Martin Granerød at the Meteorological Institute to the newspaper.

The warning applies especially to Southern, Eastern and Western Norway. In the mountains, however, it must be assumed that the wet weather first comes as snow.
