Wolf felled from a helicopter in Finnmark

The wolf that has recently killed up to 50 sheep and reindeer in Finnmark, was on Sunday felled by a crew from the Norwegian National Inspectorate, by means of a helicopter.

The Leader in Skuohtanjarga reindeer grazing district, Mikkel Sara, is relieved that the carnivore is finally felled. It occurred just after 3 pm on Sunday.

– We think that we are talking of up to 100 reindeer that has been taken by a wolf in the area during the last two weeks, the reindeer owner tells the newspaper Nationen.

It was on Monday that a license was granted to fell a wolf by the County Governor’s office.

The wolf has ravaged the area around Kautokeino and Karasjok in recent weeks, and it is believed that the felled individual is responsible for at least 20 sheep and 30 reindeer are killed or found dead as a result of sustained injuries.

The last time a wolf was felled in Finnmark for ravaging was in 2005 when an immigrant Finnish-Russian male weighing 45.5 kilos was shot in southern Varanger.
