After several years of decline, the number of young male drivers killed in road accidents has increased . Women in the same age group who are killed, are most often passengers.
Figures from the Road Safety, which is discussed in Aftenposten, show that young men are still greatly overrepresented in accident statistics. Two-thirds of young people who die in traffic are men.
– We see that fatal accidents with young male drivers have increased substantially after several years of decline. There have been more than twice as many young men aged 16-24 killed in road accidents as last year, director of traffic safety Guro Ragne in NPRA says.
Statistics show that young women often die in traffic are most often passengers. In the period 2005-2012 29 girls aged 15-19 years who were passengers died.
So far this summer there have been far traffic fatalities than last year. From early June until 28 July, 37 people lost their lives on Norwegian roads – 13 more than in the same period last year.
