Rio de Janeiro – Norwegian handball girls pushed Netherlands fully with result of 36-26 in the bronze match on Saturday and got the Olympic medal this time.

The Dutch received lesson from Norwegian in a medal match. It was class distinction from the start till the end of the match.

In just three and a half months till European Championships in Sweden. There comes Norway who shared favorite with Russia.

Olympic gold standard is impressive even though this year’s third place for many of the players was a poor consolation. There was an aim for gold trip to Rio de Janeiro.

On the opening of the game as well as a replica of the World Cup final in December Norway drove Dutch on their way to 31-23 victory.

On Saturday they lead 9-2 after a first ten minutes of play. It became 14-5 and 16-7 later. Everything was settled to break at 19-13. Norway increased margin of victory with four more goals in the second half.

The victory sent Norway’s today medal achievement in handball playoffs to 25, including the first in 1986 which has been achieved in the Netherlands World Cup.

Far down

Thursday was a completely inconsolable Norwegian team that traveled home after 37-38 loss to Russia in the semifinals.

Teams Head Thorir Hergeirsson said it seems likely that it was just too much of a good thing. The next day he said he is “not a fan of crying for a long time.”
Semifinal loss seemed to have disappeared from the team along with all the Norwegian tears.

For the Netherlands it was very difficult to pass over Norway with aggressive defense and wildly forward in search of quick goals.
The victory meant that Norway got its fourth medal in Rio Olympics. All have been bronze medals.
