Carlsen and Caruana end 12th game of World Championship in a surprising draw

Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana played to a draw for the 12th time, even though Carlsen had an advantage.

For the first time in World Championship history, all the games ended in draws.

This means that the next games must be settled with speed [and possibly ligthning] chess in the UK capital on Wednesday.

Monday’s game was over after only 31 moves. Although Carlsen had an advantage,
he chose to offer a draw.

“It was not a very long game. I did not see any opportunity to win without taking a risk” said Carlsen to NRK news.

“I was a bit surprised. I did not expect a draw just at that time” said Caruana to NRK news.
