Hegerberg praised by the Lyon fans

With the Ballon d’Or in her hands, Ada Hegerberg was celebrated by thousands of spectators ahead of Lyon’s Cup meeting with Rennes in French football on Wednesday.

The men’s team cup match was used to celebrate Lyon’s fresh Ballon d’Or winner. Hegerberg received the highly prestigious award in Paris on Monday.

It is the first time that a woman has been awarded the Ballon d’Or.

Hegerberg was nominated for both UEFA and FIFA prizes for this year’s best female football player for the 2017/18 season earlier this autumn. On Monday, however, she was named the world’s best female football player last season.

The Norwegian 23-year-old has scored to order for Lyon after the transfer to the French club in 2014. Last season was no exception. 53 goals, 15 of them came in the championship league, which was a record.

In total, Hegerberg scored 120 goals in 95 matches for her current club.

Hegerberg strongly contributed to Lyon taking their third straight championship last season.

In front of Wednesday’s cup match at Stade Matmut-Atlantique, a waving Hegerberg went out on the pitch with the Ballon d’Or trophy in her hands. The reception from the crowd was a deafening jubilee of wild exultation.
