Nils Jacob Hoff secured a semifinal place in the single heat for his third place in the quarterfinals.
The Norwegian got a slow start with fifth place after 500 meters, but eventually got underway and positioned himself in third before passing 1,000 meters.
Ángel Fournier Rodriguez of Cuba, won the quarterfinals with time 6.51,89 in front of Australian Rhys Grand. Hoff ending six seconds behind Rodriguez, but is nevertheless on to the semifinals as the last in the quarterfinal heat.
