Snowboarding: Japanese gold in Big Air, Bergrem in fifth place

Japanese Yuki Kadono won the men’s Big Air snowboarding in the X-Games in Toyen Saturday. Torgeir Bergrem (Norway) ended in fifth place.

Yuki Kadono did a backside triple cork 1620 in his first jump. and this brought him 90.66 points.
– I’m going for gold, the Japanese said to TV2 after his first jump.
He tried the somewhat harder frontside triple cork 1620 in his final attempt, but  did not get the landing right
– I did not think the first jump would be enough for me to win. I’m happy for the gold,  a modest Japanese said.
The silver went to Canadian Maxence Parrot after he landed his jump his first attempt. In the final jump, he tried his hand at a backside triple cork 1620, but had to double down with both hands in the landing. He ended at 90.33 points.
Bergrem tried a backside triple cork 1440 in his first jump, but had to end the landing and only got 26.66 points. The 24 year old from Trøndelag risked everything in the final, but did not get enough height and had to settle with a backside triple cork 1260. This brought him 53.66 points.
– I cut through in the jump and did not get enough rotation. It’s what it is,  Bergrem said.

Swedish Henrik Harlaut took a very popular gold in Big Air.

The Norwegian snowboard veteran Kjersti Ostgaard Buaas took bronze in the women’s Big Air in X Games Saturday. The gold went to Cheryl Maas (Netherlands).
