The Airbus A380 is to bring Norwegians to Palma de Mallorca

The charter company Ving is struggling with the logistics after the problems on Rhodos and hires the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380, to transport Norwegians to and from Palma de Mallorca.

The aircraft has been rented from the Portuguese charter company HiFly, writes flysmart24.no.

– It is a return trip from Oslo to Palma de Mallorca. On the trip to Palma we will bring 238 passengers, while the return flight will consist of 403, says Information Manager in Ving, Siri Røhr-Staff. The change of aircraft may come as a positive surprise to some of the passengers. There is «only» room for 399 passengers in the economy class. The charter company may have to upgrade some of them to business or even first class in order to bring all of them back home. There is room for 471 passengers in total on the A380.

The problem for Ving is not a shortage of aircraft, but that traffic to Rhodos was severely disrupted this weekend.

– It has caused further delays that have led us not to be able to bring our guests where they were supposed to be, on time. Our hope is that the situation will be resolved now, says Røhr-Staff.

Danish Spies travels in on the deal

Flight times are not yet ready, but according to the bookings for Oslo Airport Gardermoen, the plane is scheduled to arrive early on Thursday morning and leave at 11 am.

Ving’s Danish sister company, Spies travels, has also chartered HiFly’s A380. It will bring Danish charter guests to and from Cyprus.

According to Flysmart24, the A380 has visited Gardermoen on a few occasions earlier, including when the aircraft was tested for extreme winter cold and also when German airliner Lufthansa went north to showcase the aircraft in 2010. The hitherto last appearance was when An A380 had to make an emergency landing caused by a sick passenger.
