Over 5.1 million passengers traveled to and from, or through Avinor’s airports in July. This is an increase of 4.1 percent from the same month last year.

Traffic to some of the traditional holiday destinations has decreased, but new destinations have contributed significantly to traffic growth, Avinor writes in a press release. Traffic to Turkey, Montenegro and Portugal increased by 33, 25 and 9 percent, respectively.

However, the holiday countries of Greece and Spain, that many Norwegians are known to travel too, has seen a decrease in traffic of 1 and 6 percent, respectively.

“Norwegian travel habits change somewhat over time, and it is gratifying that new markets grow and give the holiday makers more options when planning their summer vacations,” said Avinor’s Director of Traffic Development, Jasper Spruit.

Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger Airports accounted for the biggest traffic growth and regional airports had a growth of three percent.
