In ten counties, heat records were broken in May. Nevertheless, 58 percent of us will book a trip abroad this summer, according to a survey from Virke Reise.

“Although Norway is bathing in sunshine, this does not put any damper on holiday travels abroad,” says Sverre McSeveny-Åril, Director of Virke Reise Utland.

The reason why more people choose to go abroad even if Norway is drenched in the sun,  the director thinks may be because many have already booked their trip, and most people know that the weather can change quickly at home.

The high temperatures may also make us more holiday minded. A total of 78 percent responded to the survey that they are planning a holiday this summer, whether in their cabin, camping or abroad.

“The travel list is great and it is going to be a good year for both foreign travel and destinations in Norway,” says Line Endresen Normann, Director of Virke Reise Norge.

Most people who travel, say that being with friends and family is what lures the most. 76 percent indicate this as the main purpose of the holiday.

On  second place for why we go away comes ‘walking , swimming and sunbathing’  , and in third places  follows  ‘experiencing new places’.

The survey further shows that we spend an average of 40,650 kroner on the holiday budget. This is a small increase from NOK 40,200 last year.
